Hi i am new by 6 months and trying different ways to get my shop seen. i think twitter is a good way just go to your home page
and post either the whole site listings or an item you want to promote alot of people look at these on twitter if you have a good
following each day i get more from it.
i want to list alot more items also i think that will help alot. and hopefully get repeat buyers they say the holiday buying is good so
the more you list the more you will sell i would think.

I agree with that vintagecottage. I do the same thing, when I post a new listing I send a tweet about it and generally get at least 20 views right off the bat. Problem with twitter that i've noticed is that alot of the people that are following me are shop owners, now I never discount a shop owner as a potential buyer, but what I want to know is how to reach a base of people that are strictly buyers.
I also agree with the statement that the more items you have the better. I've read in quite a few forum topics that more is better because it will keep the person in your shop longer so the impulse grows. Human impulse is something we need to learn how to harness, either by having great descriptions, pictures, tags, etc. Alot of that has to do with advertising as well. I just know from having previous direct sales experience that you can have the greatest product in the world but if it doesn't sound good when being told about it, what's the point right?

I've been doing the same thing on Twitter, but I'm wondering how much is too much. A lot of the people following me are fellow Etsy sellers too, and some of them are constantly tweeting their new items. It gets a little annoying -- I don't want to be that person? How often do you all think it's OK to tweet an item for sale?
I've also been looking for places to post items that are more populated by potential buyers, rather than sellers. For example, I am on Livejournal (not for promo purposes; it's my personal journal) and I joined some communities that allow for-sale posts and that seem to cater to people who might like the stuff I make. I posted my etsy mini there. I don't think I got sales out of it, but my views did go way up, and when you're as new to Etsy as I am, I think that's half the battle, getting people to just look at your stuff.

dobatseatcats- very true getting your work to be seen is half the battle, without people seeing it, it won't get sold. Now as far as twitter is concerned the etsy sellers guide I purchased told me that at least 5 tweets a day is good. I'm sure more is ok as well...but 5 is probably the minimum. Speaking of which, i'm going to read through the e-books i picked up on etsy selling and post some awesome tidbits for you guys! Good job though on finding some free ways to promote your work!

Question, how do you add someone elses mini to your blog?
Offline
i guess you would have to get the code from them. I don't know how you would do it another way. Hmmm....*scratches head* I'll look around and see what I can figure out.
Offline
That's what I'm thinking HC. Just need to tell them how many rows and columns I guess.
Offline
ok this is what i figured out by looking at the code and this is just a 2x2 thumbnail version. where it says 7825062 that's my etsy user ID. So you could prob just use the same code and swap the user ID which you will find in the URL of the shop. Does that help? Prob would make it easier
<----Here
<script type='text/javascript' src=' '></script><script type='text/javascript'>new EtsyNameSpace.Mini(7825062, 'shop','thumbnail',2,2).renderIframe();</script>

Gosh, this was hard to find!!! I've been taking new pictures and adding intems today finally, I seem to live in the forums and chat (hate that) I have stuff on facebook, my space and just seem to live at this computer. Help me!!!
Offline
I hate to say it but I live at the computer as well. But it's by choice. I don't spend near as much time in forums I probably stay there about an hour or so a day just kind of lurking to see what's being talked about, snag the awesome stuff and then leave. I tweet on twitter at least 5 times a day, and post at least a couple of postings on my facebook main page and fan page. Cool thing I figured out with the facebook fan page is that you can link it to your twitter and whatever status posts you make on the fan page turn into tweets on twitter...killing two birds with one stone I say I need to read up in the guide I have and give you guys a minimum breakdown on what you should be doing as far as social networking goes.

Hey guys:D
this is great! I love forums this style!
Anyway regarding twitter, the best advice is to keep your shop name and address on your profile and connect twitter to your flickr account if you have pictures of your products on there. the first lot of pictures will show up on twitter as your background so people can see your work.
Dont just list your items constantly, i know it puts me off seeing stores which just list items all the time, and most customers wont appreciate it especially when the aim of twitter is as a social networking site. So network, which is easier said than done I know!! I was and still am really bad at the small talk type thing. but i now log onto twitter when something has happened, something has made me smile, or annoyed me, or a song i like that i wanted to share etc! the other day i had a lovely facial so i twittered that!
and dont just add other etsy sellers, because they want to sell too!
do searches for things that maybe connect to your item that ordinary people on twitter might bet alking about. and add them. can be quite random, read some peoples profiles, and see if they fit your customer base. mine is generally women, from mid 20's to 30's so i added a bunch of people in that kind of group just randomly, and they added me back. do this avery few days, dont just post your items, talk about something your made, rather than 10 posts only with links to items. if you add one link to soemthing and someone likes what they see, likely chances are they will look around your store anyway since they already made that click!
anyway, still learning

That was a great post about Twitter! I've been trying to figure out different ways to utilize it

Great info here thanks. I didn't know you could connect flickr and twitter.
Still can't work out how to make my flickr background one of my photos though. Need to look into that one as it would be very useful.

If anyone would like their etsy mini on my blog please let me know!

I would love to do a little feature.

Vintagecottage, if you haven't done so already, you may want to consider creating a fan page on Facebook. It's really easy to do and it's free. Also, for those of you with fan pages already, they have opened up the personalized address for pages with under 100 fans. It's hit or miss, but I got mine and I don't have 100 fans yet. That way you can give a link directly to your page (like in my signature).

To add another sellers mini to your blog you can have them cut and paste the code into an email or convo and then add it to a widget on your shop. In return for doing the same, I would love to host another sellers mini on my page. Preferably one from a shop that sells a different media than I do. So jewellers, potters, felters, sewers let me know!!
JEDesigns, you and I should start the ball rolling by swapping minis!

Added DoBatsEatCats to my blog via the mini script and it worked fine. I just asked her to convo it to me. I plan on featuring a new etsian on my blog every week. Probably only members of this board. Want to reward the enthusiasm. If anyone wants to add my mini, let me know.

I featured thatDESIGNshop on my blog for the week I love her gift bags!

It's really easy to do the etsy mini for someone else on your blog or page. I posted above how to do it without asking them for the code. You can create it yourself in whatever format you want to post and then just substitute your user ID for theirs.
Offline
Oh, that is so much easier, and makes perfect sense. Thanks HC

you're welcome I knew there had to be an easier way to do it LOL

violavintage, i thought i'd saved the link on how to connect flickr and twitter, but i cant seem to find it:S...spent the last half hour looking through old threads but cants seem to find it there either.

Well I don't twitter and I'm not on face book. The fact that I'm even on a blog amazes me. I'm new to etsy and all on line sales. I've been reading the forums and going to the virtual labs. I've picked up some pointers. My photos have improved but that area seems to have mixed view points. Definitely improved my descriptions and tags. If anyone has a chance, check out my shop let me what you think. rosepetalsjewelry@etsy.com.
PS HippieChickBoutique I will be in your neighbor this week end for a wedding. Any tips for a good bead store.

I told you I was new to this, I forgot half the post. What I have been doing is giving cards out to everyone with the shop address on it. I'm also doing a few craft shows and have made up fliers with the address on them. Put a bunch of cards in the hair salon and nail place. I guess I do things the old fashion way but I'm learning.
