blogs

So i am really bad with my blog.  apart from a few additions which i added through a step by step guide by some other etsians to add a link to flickr and twitter, and my own etsy mini, i have no clue how to vamp it up.  how to include my own header, or background, the one i have i currently really dislike, and other cool gadgets to add other shops in and so forth.

so i'd like this to be dedicated for people like me who have no clue how to vamp up their blog to learn how to add things to it.

anyone have any advice???

Re: blogs

There are lots of free sites to get different backgrounds from. I'd suggest cruising other blogs to find some you like. When they are free ones, as you've probably seen, there is usually a logo for the people who made it (i.e. mine is Shabby Blogs).

In my personal opinion, getting too many gadgets on there isn't that good. Too many distractions. I've got my Etsy Mini, my Twitter link, and Followers. I'm going to have a blog roll, and sidebar links to other resources but that's it. I don't have other shops now as I want to focus just on Etsy.

As for content, I intend to come up with a weekly plan. So on Tuesdays I may highlight a D Lister. On Wednesdays I might do a tutorial, etc. I don't intend to blog daily, but certainly 4x a week is my goal.

HTH!

Re: blogs

I just blogged about royalty free patterns ironcially, but that's kind of shameless promotion as my husband publishes a book that contains a CD with 483 textile patterns.

I did want to add the below website though.  It has a bunch of patterns that you can adjust the color and download as a png.

Alternately, you could use one of your best photos of your work.

You may already know this but I had to learn how to design the blog recently so I'll share what I know.

When you are looking at your blog, go up to the righthand corner and choose customize.  This will show you the general placement of things on your blog.  From here you can click on the header and upload a picture etc.  Most things like links get added as a gadget.  You will need to copy the html code for the link to do this (like you did for your etsy mini).  From this view there is also an option to pick new template at the top of the screen.  If you hate how your blog looks, you might try different styles.

Maybe everyone knows this but I didn't until a couple of days ago.

Hope this helps
Christl

Re: blogs

What do you all think are the benefits of having a blog for your items? Has it brought business in to your store from outside etsy?

Re: blogs

Ya know, I'm not really sure if my blog has brought sales or not. I've only got 7 sales myself, so who knows. I know 2 came from a high school friend and those were probably due to facebook, and one came from my mother in law and that was just from sending her a link through email to check it out.

I like having the blog, it allows me to just keep up with my process of building the shop. I like that I can go back and read about what I was doing when I first started
