Hi Amy
Welcome!!! What a cool idea. I would suggest having all your photos show how the item works. I like this photo otherwise it is difficult to understand what the item is, especially if it is featured in a treasury as etsy cuts off everything but the first couple words.
Hope this helps.

Hi Amy,
I don't want to be a wet blanket, but I thought any kind of string or tie shouldn't be use around infants for fear of strangulation. Check the codes I could be remembering wrong.
Good luck,
Rose

Thank you for the compliment Christl. I came up with this idea from my own son and it truly was a life saver. No more tripping waitresses over thrown toys and no more OMG that just fell on the floor reactions.
Rose, the recommended guidelines for "string" length is 12". Once in the "closed" and operating position the ribbon is within the guidelines. But, this brings a good point and a great selling feature. I will add this to the description of being within the recommended gov't guidelines. Thank you for bringing this up!
Many thanks!

Glad to hear that it's not a problem. I would definitely mention in the description.
Good luck and they are very cute and clever.

I used to keep my oldest daughters pacifier on a hemp leash that i made. One of the biggest things when using something that goes around a childs neck is to not leave them un supervised....I didn't know about the minimum lengths but I would think 12" is a great length for something for a child.

Help with my Etsy name !!!!!!!! all critiques welcome !!!
Hi all....I'm in Australia and we have a lot of bush and scrub land here....I named myself "TheBushSewer" because I sew very roughly and I've never had formal training...so I call it bush sewing- I can sew neatly, but I prefer to use my old sewing machine to "sketch"....I love things rough and raw and messy and asymmetrical...BUT unfortunately, it turns out the word SEWER has 2 meanings !!!!!! It can be "one who sews", or a sewerage system...for, ehm...waste management !!!! The word "Bush" is also possibly a bit odd- maybe more to the US....
Please tell me what you think about my user name and any ideas to improve/change it!!!!
I use recycled sari silk and vintage fabrics for most of my creations...and I "sculpt" my art on a mannequin...its mostly necklaces at the moment, but I'll be moving on to bracelets, earrings, and clothing....
Any feedback would be great !
Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holly,
Somehow I couldn't find you on Etsy. Can you post a link to your shop.
Oooohshiny,
I love your shop. The photography is fabulous. Prices seem more than fair. I like the Breast Cancer theme for Oct. (I'm a survivor myself) Are you going to change it in Nov???
A few comments. I would not point out that your shop is new. You sound a bit like you are apologizing. Nothing to apologize for we all have to start somewhere.
I would add more to your descriptions as well. Some are a bit short. I don't know if you read the Etsy flyer about search engine optimization (SEO), but the descriptions are an important way for google and even Etsy to find you. I think there was a post here about how someone added a more descriptive color and within a couple hours sold three items. So make sure you add as much as possible. i.e. refer to it as a necklace a number of times. For example start out with This fabulous bronze necklace was .... and if you can think of other names for the colors add those as well.
Hope this helps

Thanks, Christl -
Great advice. I know I need to work on my descriptions - I think I used all my creativity towards actually making the pieces and then my brain melts when it's time to post I appreciate the suggestions!!

(And as of now, I'm not sure what I'm going to do for November .... the breast cancer theme is an obvious one - I'm running our local Susan G Komen 5K next weekend [I'll keep you in mind as I'm trudging along!!] - but we'll see what happens when November comes.)

OooohShiny, your shop looks great. Your photographs are clear and catchy, and your items are beautiful and very reasonably priced. I don't really have anything else to suggest other than what Christi already said. Maybe you could have someone "modeling" the bracelets and stuff though so people can see it on?!
Good luck on the 5k. I did the one here in Portland a few weeks ago and it was amazing!

BushSewer, I haven't forgotten about you and hoping to find alternative shop name. I am still pondering this, you have really got my mind working. The only thing I could think of for now is the Raw Edge because you spoke of your sewing style being raw. But I'll keep thinking... didn't want you to feel left hanging...

BushSewer, I've been thinking hard too. Maybe use "outback" instead of bush? That's all I can come up with so far.

Well, I definitely need input. Please check me out...
The first items I posted in the shop only have one picture, I know that's a no-no. I will be revamping the shop when I have time... but that is most likely going to be after the new year due to work schedules. I can't believe I'm not going to have a full shop for my first Christmas season!!!
My plans for the shop are these: 1.) New, better photos. No more "puke" green background as I've been told in the past. Will use black and/or gray backgrounds. Will use a model of some type...right now one of the models is a build-a-bear with the words "hugs" and "kisses" on the feet. So cute! 2.) Better descriptions. I can describe things for friends but I can't describe my own items.... very sad. 3.) Better Policies. I need to state something about Shipping costs. I'm going to add a statement saying that the customer will not be gouged for shipping prices and any overage of shipping prices will be refunded. I'm even considering Free shipping so I don't have to worry about it at all!!!
Still, I would appreciate a critique and some new ways to look at things. Thanks for your time!!!

I'm looking for a critique! I just finished my shop remodel (my Etsy-versary gift to me) and want to know what else I can do. I'm still not thrilled about my banner but need some different ideas on how to make it better.
Thanks gang!

Rose,
Your items are very pretty - I would suggest lightening the background of your pictures, and adding more to the listings that only have one picture. Maybe some close ups to show off the detail?
Good luck!!

Thanks Rose. Sorry it took a while to respond ..we have been on vacation.
I really like your banner. I need to come up with something more unique. I can relate to your comment above - I renew and did alot of showcases several month ago but still no success. I do really well at shows and "in person" but success here has eluded me thus far.
Anybody else got any suggestions for me? Descriptions? Prices too high?
Thanks!!!!!!

Elizabeth,
Checked out your shop. The photos are very nice. I like your banner as well.
I would pass on Hippie chicks critique to me. Use your shop title for more than just your name. Maybe stress that all proceeds benefit Koman.
I would also make sure the item titles include the actual name of the thing. (i.e. include cards in the mom pack) That will make sure people looking for cards can find you.
Use all of your tags and I would definitely find a way to include something about Koman or breast cancer. I know the keywords are picky. I bet people actually do a search for breast cancer benefit or Koman (spelling?)
And finally, I would add the names of the colors in either the description or the tag. People do lots of searches by color.
Generally the shop is well put together. Hope these suggestions help.

I have my pink items tagged with "breast cancer" - but Komen is a really good idea for a tag, too. Good job, Christl.
