I had a critique on my shop that was actually more generally given to all clothing shops on Etsy, and it was about whether or not real models should be wearing the clothes. Is it really that weird for people to buy clothing that is being presented on another person? Especially with vintage clothing, it's a given it has already been worn...
So I was wondering what other people's opinions were: clothing better presented on model or mannequin?

Well, if I had tons of available models of all ages, I would likely try to get some children wearing my clothing in photos. I do think it helps since the most popular kid's clothing shops seem to have professional photos of kids wearing their clothing. Sadly, I don't have any models to help me out.
My second choice would be a dress form but they are expensive.
I have to settle for my clothing hangers.

Whenever possible, real models probably look best, but I think that you can be creative even with a hanger. It is all in the presentation....

I was wondering the same thing... Do you think models or mannequins/dress forms are better for presenting items?

I think seeing people in clothes is always more interesting visually than mannequins - it's just that human element that's appealing. On the other hand, I guess some people would prefer their garment not to have been worn by anyone. I've been wondering about putting my necklaces on someone beautiful, rather than having them just on a flat surface or on a hanger as I do now...does it seem like a good idea?

It seems like real models would be best but there are tons of comments on the forums from folks who won't buy anything that is shown on a person! Particularly they go ballistic if earrings are shown on a real person or things in the hair, like bows, caps. It seems ok on children but not adults.

I only have one child's clothing so far listed on my store. I plan to have more. I chose to use a live model but the dress is a sample and whoever buys the item will get a new outfit sewn with the same design in their specified size. I also purposely chose to cover the child model's face for privacy reasons after I read a horror story of an ebay mom's experience where a child predator abducted her child after buying an item from her store and finding out her address. The predator had bought clothes that were modeled by her son on ebay.
In general, I think a live model helps promote the clothing item. A mannequin is the second best, clothes hanger third, and laying it on the bed/floor last. If clothes hanger is used, make sure there's nothing cluttering up the background.
